Eclipse is a cross-platform, free and open-source integrated development environment (IDE). This article will demonstrate how to install Eclipse along with its C/C++ development tools (CDT) plugin, the GNU C compiler (GCC), the GNU C++ compiler (G++) and the GNU Debugger (GDB) on Debian or its derivatives such as Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
Eclipse can be installed from the official Debian repository using APT:
root@computer:~# apt --assume-yes install eclipse eclipse-cdt g++ g++-multilib gcc gcc-multilib gdb
After the installation is completed Eclipse can be started from the terminal via a binary called eclipse located in the /usr/bin directory.
